First week

Here's another picture of an energetic Grace.  She's up, dressed, fed and jumping on our bed by 5am.  It's amazing how much you can pack into the day when you're up by 4am.
Those first few days Pete was able to work from home since it was a holiday here and then we had the weekend so we were together as a family everyday.  We explored the town a little and took some day trips.  Here are the girls in front of the town cathedral, a beautiful church that looks like a mini Notre Dame.

This is a beautiful old city with cool historic architecture and lots of cobblestone streets.
We drove up to Bymarka, a wilderness area close by and found a cold, beautiful lake to hike around and wade into.
We've been really lucky with unusually warm weather this week(~75').  It hilarious to see all the people in town trying to make the most of all this warm weather and sun in a country that doesn't see very much of either.  All over the city you see people laying out on lawns, parks and in chairs on the side walk.  People just take off their clothes and soak it up.  We've seen more than a few elderly people who just strip down to their underwear and sit in front of their homes or apartments in lawn chairs!
We went to a nearby beach one day and had fun collecting rocks, shells and splashing our feet in the water.
The beaches here are pretty rocky and make me appreciate the soft sand in California.  Ouch!
But it was still fun to hang out on the edge of the Fjord.
Saturday morning the girls expected the usual pancake breakfast, but we didn't have any of the ingredients or maple syrup to make them.  We found these Pannkakker crepe type things and eat them with nutella and bananas.  I think this will be our fill in while we're here.  Mmmm!

Trondheim

We flew eleven hours direct from San Francisco to Frankfurt, then a two hour flight to Oslo, finally a one hour flight to Trondheim.  It was a long slog, but the girls were great little travelers.
It felt really good when we finally arrived and could drop our bags in our apartment.
Jet lag is especially brutal for kids, who never really know what time it is anyway.  Since Norway is so far north, it's subject to seasonal shifts in what time it gets light, or dark. That means in the spring, it doesn't get dark here until midnight and then the sun rises again around 3:30am.  This makes it very difficult for one to adjust to a nine hour time change.  Our girls were up with the sun at 3:30 for the first four days.  Oy Vey!  Here they are full of energy, already finger painting at 5am.
Our second day here was Norway's independence day and the whole town shut down and dressed up for the event.  There were three parades throughout the day and most people were wearing traditional Norwegian clothes which was cool to see.  Even those not in traditional garb wore dresses and suits.  I was impressed.  It was very different from what you'd find people wearing at fourth of July parades in the states.

I loved seeing all the traditional clothes, they were beautiful and so unique.  The different colors and patterns represent different regions.  Here are a few pics so you can see what I mean.
We only made it through the first parade and then we started tiring out.  We took the girls back to the house and they passed out at 1:00 in the afternoon and didn't wake up until 6pm.  Not helping our progress on the jet lag situatuion.

Norway

Pete has business partners in Norway and has had to travel there three times in the last year.  Those trips were usually only a week or two, but he realized he would have to spend some significant time there in May.  As April was coming to a close we started toying with the idea of taking the whole family for a Norwegian adventure.  There were a lot of things to consider and as with any choice, we knew we'd miss out on activities and events here at home if we made the trip, but it just seemed like too good of an opportunity to pass on.  So with just over three weeks before he had to leave, we made the decision.  Then the insanity began: the expedited passport process for the girls, finding people to cover callings, carpools, watch our house, etc. We flew to Utah for my brothers wedding for one of those weeks and got back in town with five days to spare before our departure date.  Of course we also managed to squeeze in three or four doctors appointments in those five days.  Our usually healthy kids somehow started snoring (possibly needing a tonsillectomy) and come down with a double ear infection during that time.
By some miracle we pulled it all together and left warm and sunny weather in California for a town in Norway six hours south of the Arctic Circle.  We'll stay for just over five weeks.
I'll have lots of free time there, so I plan to keep you all updated on our little adventure.  Stay tuned....

Random bits

Our dear friends Molly and Jason were in town from Denver.  It was so great to catch up.
GG is in that adorable phase where she disappears
and then reappears wearing something like this,
 ...or this.  Love this stage.
We discovered a beautiful birds nest in the tree in our yard and the girls have been captivated by the idea of baby birds.  I remember having the same experience as a child,
one of those magical things about childhood.
Sydney and I both said goodbye to our best friends, the Nadauld girls.  I still can't believe we're losing you guys and don't know what we'll do without you.
Feels like we've known each other forever.
We'll have to plan some trips to St. George very soon.

Matt&Amanda

My little brother Matt got married this month to a sweet and beautiful girl named Amanda.  We all flew out to be there for their marriage in the Timpanogos temple.  Spring was just getting started in Utah and it was a nice sunny day for the big event.
It was fun to see my brother so happy, we're all
excited for this couple!
Syd & GG outside the temple
 sisters and cousins
all the Prina grandkids, minus GG and Jill
My Dad and brothers
After all the wedding festivities we got some time with my brother John at his new house-he and Pete worked on getting the sprinkler system fixed while the girls revelled at the chance to play with buddies Kyler and Ellie.  These kids are so cute together!
Then we headed up to SLC and packed in some fun with Johnson cousins.
We spent a day at the zoo with the cutest group of little girls.
I wish these kids could see more of each other.
I was really bad about taking pics this trip, but we have the memories.
It's so great to spend time with our families.  Can't wait until July!

Boxer ski weekend

We went to Tahoe for the weekend with Pete's business partner, Rob and his wife Sarah.
We took both our girls skiing (GG's first time) and they loved it.
Look at those tiny skis!
Pete and GG on the lift
warming up with hot cocoa at the lodge
 Rob and Sarah
The girls built a mini snowman
Sunday morning we slept in, made a big pancake breakfast and did some sledding
Rob and Sarah are really fun people and they are so great with our kids.  The girls love them and it was so cute to see them interact.  GG was just asking me today, when we can go to the cabin with them again!
It was a beautiful weekend and a great last snow experience for the season.
Rob and Sarah we hope this turns into a tradition!
